Over the past three weeks we have been looking for signs of Spring on our Welly Walks.

First we spotted buds growing.

Then there were leaves…
and this week we spotted something very special.

We have been thinking and learning about growing vegetables, and have been reading the story of The Enormous Turnip. The children decided they would like to try and retell the story. We found some props and the children decided what they needed for the characters.

HEAVE!!!!!!!
They practised all moring and then on our Welly Walk groups of children performed to the class. We showed RW our performances on the IWB.
They were amazing!!
This week we have started to notice that our potatoes are beginning to grow. Green leaves are poking their way out of the soil.
See what you think!
Two weeks ago we looked at www.potatoesforschools.org.uk. We read instructions to help us to complete the first step of growing our potatoes. The instructions told us to put the potatoes in an egg box with the sprouts pointing up. We then put the potatoes on the windowsill and left them for two weeks. The first step is called chitting.

Yesterday we took the potatoes from the windowsill and planted them in our playground. We spaced the potatoes out so they will have room to grow, and labelled each seed. We talked about what the seeds will need now to make them grow. We thought they would need water and the sun.
Now we have to wait and see what happens.
Incy Wincy enjoyed our Welly Walk this week because the sun came out and dried up all the rain! There were only a few puddles left to look in and splash in.
We checked our bird feeders, and spotted more birds this week. We counted 3, then 4, then another 2. Can you work out how many we saw altogether?
Once we got back to our playground we sang some rainy songs and enjoyed eating our spider biscuits.
Watch out for what we get up to this week.
We went on our second Welly Walk on Friday. RM put on their wellies and lined up ready at the door.

We looked closely at the bird feeders in our playground. We noticed that the birds had not eaten the bird food next to the wall, but had eaten the food away from the wall. RM though this might have been because the birds might have thought they were going to crash into the wall. We added a new bird feeder where some food had been eaten.

We then went to the junior playground. The birds had eaten the food from the trees.

We looked carefully for somewhere to hang the new bird feeders.

We added the new bird feeders higher than before because RM said they needed to be high up, away from the ground.
On our walk this week we spotted 2 pigeons and 1 nest.
When we got back we all sat down and began to write the blog together. Rhea said the weather today was cloudy and Jamal said it was wet.
Next week we’re going to check the new feeders and splash in the puddles, because we’re thinking about the rain next week. Don’t forget your wellies! Please bring them in a bag and put them on your peg.
Check here next week to see what we get up to.
Today we went on our first Welly Walk. We took the bird feeders we had made on Wednesday to hang up for the birds, because in cold weather the birds do not have muich to eat.
Rhea described the weather today as cloudy, although it wasn’t just cloudy for long!
We got our wellies on and lined up at the door.

We hung some of the bird food in our playground.

Miss Clear then helped to hang some bird food from the wall and tree.

The rest of RM and RW watched and listened for the birds.

We then went to hang some bird feeders in the Junior playground. We spotted some Magpies and some Pigeons. We counted 4 Pigeons.

We hung up the final bird feeders as the weather began to change. Tauseef said it was raining abit and Fatima Noor said it was sunny. Lola-Mae then said we might see a rainbow!
On our way back we counted how many bird feeders we had hung up for the birds. We counted 16!
Next week we’ll go and see if anything has happened to our feeders.
Look again next Friday to find out what has happened…
Today’s Weather Forcast is brought to you by Class RM.

Hi everyone, are you enjoying the snow? It’s a great start to our topic this half term … we will be learning about the weather!
I hope you have played out in the snow. Have you made a snowman or some snow angels?
Draw a picture… don’t forget to write your name on it.
See if you can find out 3 things about snow and let me know.
If you can watch the weather forecast on television it will give you a great start to playing in our new role play area when school opens again.
Some things to think about….
What is a weather forecast?
What does it tell you?
What does the television presenter do?
What do they use?
How many different sorts of weather can you think of?
See you soon
Miss Murphy
